Peter A. LETZMANN helps small governments, not for profit
groups and businesses improve the performance of their
organizations. He is an attorney at law. He was the City
Attorney of Troy, Michigan for seventeen years.
At Troy LETZMANN was responsible for all of the city's
legal matters, including, advising the city officials,
defending the city against claims and law suits, land
use, eminent domain, telecommunications, ordinance
prosecutions, personnel and labor, law enforcement,
contracts, ordinances and documents. He also has been a
Deputy City Attorney for the City of Pontiac and an
Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Detroit.
He graduated from the University of Detroit Law School in
1972. LETZMANN received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from
Wayne State University. He has attended the FBI's Police
Legal Advisors Academy, and other continuing education
courses for municipal attorneys.
LETZMANN has made hundreds of presentations regarding
legal issues and leadership aspects of government. He
taught in the graduate school of Public Administration at
Oakland University and has been an instructor at MSU,
EMU, Oakland Community College, Kellogg Community
College, Washtenaw Community College and others.
He has made presentations to various organizations,
including the Michigan Municipal League, Michigan
Township Association, American Public Works Association,
International City Management Association, Michigan
Association of Municipal Attorneys, State Bar of Michigan
Public Corporation Law Section, Kentucky Bar Association,
Tennessee Bar Association, Institute of Continuing Legal
Education, Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI
National Academy Alumnae, Michigan Fire Chiefs
Association, Michigan Association of Court
Administrators, Upper Peninsula EnvironmentalHealth
Association, Michigan Mechanical Inspectors Association
and numerous other groups and organizations.
LETZMANN has provided training to various agencies,
including the City of Cadillac, MI; Ann Arbor, MI;
Jackson, MI; Vassar, MI; Harbor Springs, MI; Wayne
County; MI, State of Michigan, Departments of Agriculture
and Natural Resources, and others.
LETZMANN is certified as an instructor by the Michigan
Law Enforcement Officers Training Council, Fire Fighter
Training Council and Department of Labor (Act 54).
He is active in the State Bar of Michigan, being a past
chair of the Public Corporation Law Section and past
member of the Ethics Committee . LETZMANN is the chair of
the State of Michigan Local Lockup Advisory Board, the
Michigan chair of the International Municipal Lawyers
Associations (IMLA), past president of the Michigan
Association of Municipal Attorneys, the past chair of the
Michigan Municipal League's Defense Fund and member of
other organizations.
LETZMANN has been published in various periodicals,
including the Journal of the State Bar of Michigan and
the Detroit Lawyer, MAMA Legal Briefs, The Public
Corporation Law Section Quarterly, the Michigan Municipal
Review, the Michigan Township News, the Michigan Police
Journal and the MML's Guide for Newly Elected Officials.
He has been a guest columnist in various newspapers.
He has received recognition from various groups,
including the Michigan Municipal League's Award of Merit,
the Bert Bergoyne Award from the Public Corporation Law
Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan
Municipal Attorney's Distinguished Service Award, and
others.
